Very Fine Quality Regency Centre Table made of Macassar Ebony

A very fine quality Regency centre table made of an exceptionally good cut of Macassar ebony which has been applied with absolute symmetry and precision. This timber is so rare that it is almost extinct, it comes from Celebes island in the East Indies and, ironically, despite growing on an island, it is no good for building a raft because it is so dense that it does not float on water. It is also so dense that it blunts woodworking tools, which makes the quality of this table even more remarkable. The proportions of this table are perfect, the carving is crisp, the construction is first rate and the structure is all of the finest mahogany. This table must have been a very important commission by one of the best furniture makers for a very fine house indeed. 112cm wide TF075
